About Laura

After more than 20 years of teaching, the one thing I know for sure is that there isn’t a “right” way to move.

I’ve watched all the fitness trends come and go, and the list of things women are told we "should" be doing just keeps getting longer — especially at midlife. As if your to-do list wasn’t long enough already!

I’ve had to figure this out for myself too. I know what it’s like when the exercise that used to work for you just doesn’t anymore. And I know what it’s like to struggle to get moving at all.

In my classes, there’s always room to to try something different, add more challenge or slow things right down.

We can play around with how we move, get curious and see what happens. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it all goes a bit wonky. No gold stars here!

I’m also very passionate about what movement can do for our brain health, not just our strength and mobility. I’ve struggled with brain fog throughout menopause, and having a mum with Alzheimer’s means I worry about my own brain health too. I know I’m not alone in this, so I love to find ways to challenge our grey matter.

For me, this is what movement is really about: caring for our bodies and brains, not just for how we feel today, but for everything we still want to do.

“People may call what happens at midlife “a crisis,” but it’s not. It’s an unraveling—a time when you feel a desperate pull to live the life you want to live, not the one you’re “supposed” to live. The unraveling is a time when you are challenged by the universe to let go of who you think you are supposed to be and to embrace who you are.”

"Rip it up and start again"

And then one day, you decide to shake your whole life up!

After years of teaching and running a busy movement studio in rural Ireland, my husband and I decided midlife was as good a time as any to do something completely different. So we packed up and moved to southwest France.

It’s been a whirlwind of renovations and wrestling with the notorious French bureaucracy ever since, but I wouldn’t change a thing!

These days, I teach online classes and workshops from our home here in beautiful Lot-et-Garonne, with small-group retreats coming soon.

Whether we meet online or here in France, come as you are.

We’ll start from there.

Let’s stay connected

I’ll share thoughts on movement and midlife, things I think you’ll find useful, and keep you posted on what I’ve got coming up.
